Having been to many food and wine events this year I can confidently say that once again, the Chicago Gourmet has proven to be the hightlight event of the industry. Mayor Rahm Emanuel was in attendance once again, as was many a celebrity chef including Chicago’s Graham Elliot (Graham Elliot, GEB), Takashi Yagihashi (Takashi, Slurping Turtle), David Dworshak (Takito Kitchen) and Abraham Conlon (Fat Rice) and many, many more. There were cooking demos and panel discussions to behold by connoisseurs, appreciators and those simply desperate to make the most of the countless servings on offer. The Grand Cru, as always, was the place to be where attendees could sample wares from 10 of Chicago’s Michelin-starred restaurants as well as 9 other accomplished chefs from around the globe. I will be doing whatever I can to attend next year’s event, which is slated for September 26-28, 2014.
